An innovative IT degree — developed through a partnership between La Trobe University and online learning provider, Didasko — has won an award at the prestigious Educational Publishing Awards Australia.
The online Bachelor in Applied Information Technology, designed by Didasko in collaboration with academic experts at La Trobe, beat Cambridge University Press to win the ‘Tertiary (wholly Australian) Teaching and Learning Resource – digital only’ category at the 25th Educational Publishing Awards Australia on 20 September.
Professor Wenny Rahayu, Head of School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at La Trobe, said the win was a reflection of a strong and growing collaboration between La Trobe and Didasko.
“I warmly congratulate everyone in the Didasko and La Trobe teams on this well-deserved recognition of a dynamic partnership between two organisations whose focus is on creating innovative, and career-enhancing content for students,” Professor Rahayu said.
“Responding to growing industry need for career-ready graduates, the highly interactive, hands-on approach of our Bachelor in Applied Information Technology makes it particularly attractive to potential employers.”
“Off the back of this successful degree program - which in the past 18 months has already attracted 450 students - La Trobe-Didasko has also recently launched Australia’s first Applied Cloud Technology Bachelor’s Degree, again in response to industry need.”
Andrew Horton, Group Managing Director at Didasko, said the La Trobe University Bachelor of Applied Information Technology is a three-year, full-time or part-time equivalent online degree.
“The course has multiple exit points (diploma, associate degree, applied degree), monthly enrolments and alternate entry pathways.
Designed specifically to meet industry need, the course also includes relevant IT certifications highly desired by potential employers,” Mr Horton said.
The judges said of the Bachelor in Applied Information Technology:
“A comprehensive cohesion of content and expert pedagogical support is provided in this extensive learning package. Designed in collaboration with academic discipline experts across a broad scope of topics, this represents a carefully coordinated publishing effort.”
“The video lectures and other multi-media content such as animations, practical tasks and interactive drag and drop activities are excellent components, helping to stimulate learning about computer hardware in a lab exploration/simulation format.”
The 25th Educational Publishing Awards Australia (EPAA) recognise excellence and innovation within the educational publishing industry and are organised by the Australian Publishers Association.
